engage launch event
Age OK was launched on the 29th April 2009 at the Design Museum in Shad Thames, London. The launch was attended by many of our members, and aimed to raise awareness of the objectives and benefits of the Age OK accreditation mark. The accreditation mark is awarded to organisations which have successfully reached the required standards of product design and service delivery that are deemed to serve the needs and interests of older people.
The launch began with a welcome speech by Michelle Mitchell, Charity Director of Age Concern and Help the Aged. Journalist and Television Presenter, Dame Joan Bakewell continued the presentation, along with Chief Executive of Age Concern and Help the Aged, Tom Wright. A highlight of the launch was the announcement that Sky was the first winner of the Age OK accreditation mark in recognition of the design of the Sky Accessible Remote Control. Brian Lenz, Head of Product Design and Innovation at British Sky Broadcasting was presented with the award by former broadcast war reporter and former independent politician Martin Bell. Brian also delivered an enjoyable motivational speech following the presentation.
The launch was a huge success and enjoyed by all who attended. We are very much looking forward to continuing to promote Age Ok and hope to be able to award many other innovative companies with the Age OK accreditation mark to acknowledge their commitment to improving the lives of older people.
We would like to say a big thank you to our guest speakers Dame Joan Bakewell and Martin Bell and to the Design Museum for hosting the launch.
